data is boosting the circular economy in San Feliu, Spain

A joint project between Aigües de Barcelona, a public-private partnership between SUEZ and the city of Barcelona, and the local authorities in San Feliu de Llobregat and Cetaqua has taken a new step forwards in the application of the principles of the circular economy in Spain.

The project s goal was to take stock of the resources used by all the key actors in this town with 40,000 inhabitants on the outskirts of Barcelona, and to compile all the available data on the consumption of energy, water and materials, and the production of waste.

Thanks to this unique data collection operation, new opportunities to develop the circular economy have been identified, from renewable energy, to reuse and recycling, the extension of the lifespan of industrial waste and the reduction of the consumption of resources. The project has also contributed to the creation of a network between all these actors that encourages synergies and the sharing of best practices.
