David Giraud: I’m taking you to Tignes les Boisses. At 1,850 m, it’s now one of the most favoured
gateways to the legendary Espace Killy…
Antoine Dénériaz: For all of us, Jean-Claude Killy remains a major figure, an absolute benchmark in the
world of competition. Just imagine, 6 times world champion and in the same year, 1968, at the Grenoble
Olympics, he won all three blue-riband events – the downhill, the slalom and the giant slalom. Quite simply
amazing and totally unimaginable today…
D.G.: Pioneering as always, today at Tignes, we are designing and building the eco-village of the 21st
Century, a whole new way of living in the mountains that respects the environment and these magnificent
landscapes…
A.D.: As the father of a small child, I’m extremely aware of the ecological balances that, here more than
anywhere, are fragile and must have our full attention…

with a low ecological impact, blending in with local architecture, using locally sourced classic materials,

Skiing.
No less than 300 km
of slopes…
… a vast area ranging from an altitude of 1,550m to 3,450m, outstanding freeride routes
and two constantly developing snow parks… At the heart of the Vanoise massif in the Upper
Tarentaise Valley, the Espace Killy is the undisputed kingdom of Great Skiing in both winter
and summer. The legendary and panoramic ski area stretches from the Pissaillas Glacier
above the Col de l’Iseran to the Grande Motte Glacier naturally encompassing Val d’Isère
and Val Claret at Tignes. A total of 1,900m of height differential and around a hundred ski lifts,
opening up a full range of pistes of all colours – 25 black, 46 red, 61 blue and 22 green so that
everyone from experienced competitor to amateur beginner is free to ski as they like.
The altitude and orientation of the Espace Killy guarantees plentiful snow
and pure sunshine. This is where the “Critérium de la Première Neige” is held
and where you can ski in a swimsuit in the full summer sunshine.
This was where nearly all the Alpine and Artistic skiing events of the 1992 Olympic Games
were held. Fans of the new riding sports will feel very much at home here. The two snowparks
have any number of obstacles – small and medium air tables, hips and jumps of all sizes and
for all abilities, wall, Banana rail, rainbow kick, flat rail, dance floor, barrels, an accessible and
very entertaining spine, Boarder Cross…
Here beginners in the green learning area rub shoulders with the best riders
on the planet during the European X-Games…

At the heart of a new generation
eco-village.
Taking advantage of the release of a vast amount of space, Tignes-les-Boisses has
undergone a large-scale and resolutely innovative redevelopment. The aim is to create the
mountain eco-village of the future that is able to combine the charm of the past with today’s
facilities and comforts while sustainably protecting the environment. A challenge that has
been picked up as the resort has been able to fund its plans.
New developments – the local minor road has been rerouted to take it further
away from the hamlet, a brand new large capacity telecabin with 8 seats
capable of reaching 2,180m in 4 minutes. Courtesy of this new generation
connection, Tignes les Boisses has become a real starting point, an excellent
ski-in-ski-out gateway to the Espace Killy pistes.
Combining a four-star hotel and a four-star résidence de tourisme with a Spa, shops and
services, the new eco-village is laid out around the historic church in les Boisses, Saint
Jacques de Tignes. With its lively and spirited ambience, the project is organised around 3
successive small squares inspired by the hamlets of the past. Visitors can move around safely
and with a low environmental impact as the whole village is strictly for pedestrians only. Motor
vehicles find their place in the covered car parks beneath the buildings.
Fresh priority has been given to serenity and congeniality, new direct and
optimal access to the ski areas, new ecological considerations making
Tignes-les-Boisses an advance glimpse of the mountain villages of tomorrow
to delight the holidaymakers of today.

At the feet of the Grande Motte Glacier, an altitude of more than 3,000 m,
summer skiing, 20 Km of piste and a snowpark , a water sports centre, acroland, trampoline, squash and beach volleyball, 90 km of mountain bike trails and, exclusively, an endurance trail starting above the snow line, an 18-hole golf course, the highest in Europe, a 5,000 m2 water sports area with a geyser, waterfall and waterslide, a green path laid out on the banks of the lake….

Nestling near the church, Kalinda village is a hamlet of 6 small buildings whose architecture is inspired by the traditional Haute Tarentaise dwelling. In
the chalet style, they comprise charming and simple inter-connected spaces, in 2 sections clad in natural materials – wood and local stone and with
roofs of stone slabs – a fifth façade to delight you on your return from the slopes…
From the moment you arrive, your vehicle like all the others will find a cosy spot underground in the covered private car park. Safety and serenity are
back on the menu at Kalinda Village where you get about exclusively on foot. Everything is arranged to make this natural and environmentally lowimpact means of getting about easier – facilities at the snow’s edge, everything is within a couple of steps. Make the most of it – there’s a succession

For fans of technical challenges and spectacular sights, the Tignes arched
dam, decorated with a gigantic fresco representing a giant painted in 1989
by JM Pierret, is nearly 300 m long at the crest and 150 m high, making it
one of the highest in the world. A gallery on the roof of the Chevril power
station offers a view taking in the dam, the lake, the Grande Motte Glacier,
the Dôme de la Sache and Mont Pourri. For nature and wildlife lovers,
Tignes is also an excellent gateway to the Vanoise National Park and the
Col de l’Iseran. In 1935, the old mule trail become a legendary route, the
highest in Europe and an essential part of the Route des Grandes Alpes
that connects the Upper Tarentaise with the Upper Maurienne, Thonon with
