Comment est né ce projet de culture de jardins sous-marins ?
Il y a quelques années, Sergio Gamberini, le directeur de l entreprise de technologies sous-marines Ocean Reef, a eu cette idée un peu folle en apparence : là où l agriculture terrestre est impraticable en raison de la température, du manque d eau ou d espace, l océan pourrait-il être une solution ? Le projet Nemo s Garden est né de cette intuition. Nous menons depuis 2014 des recherches et des expérimentations pour développer un système de biosphères ancrées à quelques mètres de profondeur dans la Méditerranée, où nous cultivons des tomates, des aubergines, de la salade, des herbes aromatiques Pour l anecdote, tout a commencé avec du basilic, pour le pesto évidemment !
How was this underwater garden project born?
Several years ago, Sergio Gamberini, the president of the underwater technology enterprise, Ocean Reef, had, what appeared to be a completely mad idea: where terrestrial agriculture is impossible due to temperature, lack of water or space, could the ocean be a solution? The Nemo s Garden project was the fruit of this idea. Since 2014 we have been carrying out research, and experimenting, on the development of a system of biospheres, anchored in the Mediterranean at a depth of just a few metres, where we are growing tomatoes, aubergines and lettuce, in addition to aromatic herbs. Anecdotally, everything started with a crop of basil, for pesto sauce of course!
