We urgently need to find an alternative to the conventional linear economic model that consists of extracting raw materials, producing, consuming and then discarding. Now obsolete, it has brought about a major ecological crisis, from air, water and soil pollution, to threats to biodiversity and the increased scarcity of natural resources. Today, another economic model is required: the circular economy, which can change our modes of consumption and production intelligently, by encouraging the recycling, reuse and eco-design of products and materials. An energy- sober model that creates value but doesn t over-exploit natural resources.
