"HABITATS is my contribution to Ruinart's decision to enrich the biodiversity of the vineyard. I wanted art to provide shelter for the local fauna." NILS-UDO
With HABITATS, NILS-UDO creates an installation that interacts with nature in the Taissy vineyard. The weather, natural erosion and presence of animals and insects are integral to the work, which becomes an artistic ecosystem. Crowned with nests of vine shoots, the installation is a gift to nature that invites birds, bees, caterpillars, butterflies and ladybirds to find shelter.
Visible from the road that runs along the vineyard, HABITATS also engages a dialogue with those who cross the landscape, often without seeing it. Standing tall in the middle of the vineyard, these sculptures made of wood and vine branches encourage visitors to consider the importance and richness of biodiversity.
NILS-UDO constantly experiments with the multiple temporalities and transformations of living things, which he captures through the photographs he takes of the installations. HABITATS will be immortalised through a series of images produced by the artist to capture different moments through the seasons and cycles of the vine, from winter sleep to the first flowers and until the grapes ripen.
