Green Keeper Africa est une entreprise béninoise qui développe une technologie permettant de contourner le problème écologique de la jacinthe d eau, une plante invasive se développant dans certains cours d eau ouest-africains. Son fondateur, David Gnonlonfoun, a tiré profit des capacités phyto-épuratoires de la plante pour élaborer et commercialiser un absorbant 100 % organique destiné aux professionnels de l industrie pétrolière, alimentaire ou du BTP. L intégralité de la jacinthe d eau est utilisée. Elle est d abord séchée puis broyée jusqu à l obtention d une poudre utilisée pour stopper les fuites d hydrocarbures sur terre et mer mais également les dépôts de teintures et peintures industrielles. Par la suite, cette fibre imbibée d hydrocarbures devient un combustible puissant pouvant être vendu à différentes entreprises.
Engagée en faveur de l égalité homme-femme, GKA favorise en outre l insertion professionnelle des femmes. Elles représentent en effet 70 % des effectifs du groupe. Un bel exemple d opportunité économique transformée en engagement fort pour la planète et pour les êtres humains.
Benin-based company Green Keeper Africa is developing a technology to overcome the problem of the water hyacinth, an invasive plant that grows in certain watercourses in West Africa. The founder, David Gnonlonfoun, has drawn on the phyto-purifying properties of the plant to develop and market a 100% organic absorbent for professionals in the oil, foodstuffs or construction industries. The whole water hyacinth is used. First, it is ground into a powder that is used to prevent leaks of hydrocarbons on land and at sea, but also deposits of dyes and industrial paint. The fibre impregnated with hydrocarbons then becomes a powerful fuel that can be sold to different companies.

Sandra Rey a eu une idée lumineuse: utiliser la capacité de certains organismes marins à produire de la lumière sans électricité, appelée bioluminescence. Pour concrétiser son projet, elle a monté sa start-up, Glowee. Celle-ci produit une nouvelle source de lumière, économique et écologique, grâce à des bactéries génétiquement modifiées encapsulées dans des coques organiques, transparentes et hermétiques. Transparent le jour et visible la nuit, cet éclairage discret mais efficace n engendre pas de pollution lumineuse et n émet pas de CO2. Encore trop faible pour éclairer des habitations, ce système est d ores et déjà utilisé pour des applications de décoration: événements, mise en valeur de façades ou de parterres. Glowee a ainsi imaginé des installations éphémères pour des marques comme Adidas ou LVMH et pour la Nuit blanche à Paris en 2017.

This company produces a new economical and ecological light source using genetically modified bacteria that are encapsulated in organic, transparent and hermetically sealed shells. Transparent by day and visible by night, this discreet but efficient form of lighting does not produce any light pollution and does not emit any CO2. Although it is still not powerful enough to light up houses, the system is already used for decorative purposes, from events, to the lighting of façades or flower beds. Glowee has also designed pop-up attractions for brands such as Adidas or LVMH, and for the Nuit blanche (literally Sleepless Night ) event in Paris in 2017.
