In an effort to reinvent cruise tourism, the Harbor built the Walter Plantz Square. The Square consists of seven quaint, colorful, gingerbread structures, each named after a famous bay on the island. The buildings form a rectangle around a fountain with palm trees offering their leafy umbrellas as shade. The architecture reflects the historical St. Maarten homes.
The facility, which features a small pier, is named after Walter Plantz Williams, a long-time resident of the area, who was nicknamed Plantz because of the amount of time he used to spend at the Plantz plantation hunting with members of the Plantz family. He was also a fishing legend in his own right.
