Port St. Maarten serves as a major cargo transshipment hub for the Northeastern Caribbean. With the most modern equipment for cargo port operations, efficiency and effectiveness are the hallmarks of the friendly service available at the Port. It handles about 75,000 teu (twenty-foot equivalent unit) annually and functions as a feeder port for many of the neighboring islands, including Anguilla, Saba, St. Eustatius, St. Barts, Montserrat, St. Kitts & Nevis, and Antigua and Barbuda. There is a close, even symbiotic
relationship between stevedores and port management.
Part of the modern services available include the Global Logistic System (GLS) software which speeds up clearance from days to just minutes. Similarly, crane operations reach rates of up to a max of 23 moves/hour (5 moves/hour more than average).
