This case at a university laboratory site, which had recently undergone a major refurbishment, tells a very different story.

EOW was detected in the early hours of the morning and the low water pressure alarm alerted the university control room. Maintenance immediately investigated and were able to limit the damage such that the expensive laboratory equipment was not affected at all.

The loss was only about £100k and there was no disruption to the use of the laboratory. This would have been a very different situation without the early detection technology.
