Hello, I am Marcel Nollen, a

member of the Executive Board of

VU Amsterdam University.

At VU Amsterdam, ranked as the

most sustainable university in the

Netherlands by SustainaBul, we

take sustainability very seriously.

We contribute to the transition

towards a sustainable campus,

university, and society every day—

an ecosystem in which knowledge

about sustainability f lourishes

and spreads – both within our

university and beyond.

Our commitment to sustainability

goes beyond environmental

concerns; it encompasses

human, economic, social, and

cultural dimensions. The 17

Sustainable Development Goals,

the SDGs, adopted by all 193

(one hundred and ninety-three)

member countries of the UN, are

our guiding principles

And now as we approach COP28

this years climate summit I am

thrilled to introduce something

I am immensely proud of the

Road to COP28 story collection

This compilation crafted by

the diverse voices within our

university’s community, is a

testament to our collective

passion for change. These stories

serve as a powerful call to action.

These narratives, made by

students, employees, partners,

and writers from all walks of life

– all connected to VU Amsterdam,

advocate for a sustainable future

that transcends borders and

institutions. They embody our

shared commitment to raising

our voices against climate

change.

I hope these stories leave a

lasting impression. Especially

now, as we navigate these critical

times, they underscore the

urgency of addressing climate

issues. They remind us that the

time for meaningful change is

urgent and now.
