Hi, I’m Sean Southey.
I’m Chair of I IUCN Commission
on Education and Communication.
We are so excited to be
working with the Amsterdam
Sustainability Institute and the VU
University exploring the power of
stories to combat climate change.
We live in a super complicated
time.
I get to travel all over the world
and the thing I hear, whether
it’s in Mongolia or Peru or in
Amsterdam, climate change is a
real problem and we need bottom
up solutions from everyday
farmers, everyday f ishermen,
everyday shoppers, everyday
politicians, we believe the data
is not the way to make the big
changes in life. An extra graph,
an extra news article, an extra
report is not going to make the
difference
We believe that stories will make
the difference And this wonderful
team at the Amsterdam
Sustainability Institute and the VU
University have been working with
us to create stories on climate
change. Dozens of stories from
a diverse set of stakeholders
looking at what are the solutions
they can put on the table to
combat climate change. These
stories evoke empathy, they will
play at COP 28 in Dubai this fall in
4-6 weeks with 60-70,000 people
there.
We want them to inf luence the
global leaders to think differently
about the actions needed to take
on climate change.
We’re proud of these stories.
We encourage you to watch them.
We encourage you to learn from
them.
We encourage you to share them,
but mostly we hope you’ll enjoy
them.
Thank you so much
Sean Southey
