Be open Encourage the leadership team to share their journey - this transparency and vulnerability can really help a young person just starting out: • What are they working on? • What do they find challenging? • Where have they succeeded? • When have they failed? Hearing this tells young people that no one expects ‘the finished article’ - that it’s OK to make mistakes and to learn from them.
Communicate clearly It’s often the small details that have the most impact. Make sure that everyone knows: • Where they’re going on their first day • How to get there • If travel expenses are provided • Who will be meeting them
• What they should wear • Whether lunch or lunch expenses
are provided Give a clear timeline of what will happen when and stick to that where possible. Convey any changes promptly, using their preferred method of communication.
