TARGET WEIGHT should be determined according to Body Condition and breed of the individual (see charts at the end of this section). Recommended rations account for the level of weight excess and should be restricted further after 4 weeks* where necessary to achieve 1-3% bodyweight loss per week.

MAINTENANCE RATION: It is recommended to continue feeding the weight-loss diet once target weight is achieved. Energy intakes should be increased by 10% and Body Condition Score and weight monitored closely throughout the stabilisation period. Should the dog regain more than 5% of body weight, the daily ration should be decreased to weight loss levels.
