Performance management is a crucial part of your role and your ability to get the best out of your direct reports will influence how successful they are and in turn how successful Heineken UK is.

To effectively manage performance, you need to:

Ensure direct reports commit to SMART objectives and their role in driving their performance

Be fair and consistent in recognising the various levels of performance within your team

Don t back off from delivering tough messages in a respectful manner

Ensure formal reviews are a continuation of the conversation not a surprise

Identify and appropriately manage poor performance

Hold direct reports accountable and provide the support needed to deliver

Be balanced between tell and sell
