Challenges
A project of unprecedented complexity, given its scale, working in a densely urbanized area and coordinating large multidisciplinary teams that speak 22 languages:
300 client representatives;
950 engineers and architects who design plans and specifications all over the world and send them to us as we build;
650 employees who coordinate the daily work of thousands of people involved in relocating utilities, engineering structures, building over- head structures, excavating tunnels, rehabilitat- ing existing structures, and installing electrical systems and interfaces for driverless electric trains.
Solutions
Maximize building information modeling (BIM) like never before in Quebec: to date, nearly 37,000 files and 1,300 models have been produced on eight software programs.
Optimize collaboration using seven different platforms.
Innovations
Development of an app that simulates equipment delivery in 3D, taking into account its size and time of use, to instantly and accurately determine the optimal route and share it with all teams. The app won the 2020 Digitization Strategy Award from CanBIM, an organization that promotes best practices in digital technologies and processes in the construction industry.
Use of drones, a powerful and cost-effective docu- mentation tool with which we produce photos and videos as well as orthomosaics to map and georeference the installations. Combined with BIM, the images make it possible to compare plans with the completed work. These bodies of information optimize site logistics and give a clear picture of progress on the project. All stakeholders can access the information through a collaborative platform.
