Project
Meticulously disassemble the original Champlain Bridge, spanning the Saint Lawrence River and Seaway, which was replaced by a new structure in 2019.
Challenges
Meet the highest standards for health and safety, environmental protection and social acceptability.
Avoid interference with commercial ship traffic and other major work in the area.
Solutions
Reclaim 250,000 tonnes of concrete, 25,000 tonnes of steel and 12,000 tonnes of asphalt to be repur- posed locally, ensuring their traceability.
Minimize the impact on nearby residents with a traffic management plan, monitoring of air quality, noise and vibration, and continuous communication.
Build two migratory fish corridors and reduce green- house gases by optimizing truck routes.
Innovations
Develop a tool with immersive 4D simulation, linked in real time to schedule data, to easily show the sequences for upcoming stages in the project.
Build a catamaran barge equipped with a system of six lift towers on which the deconstruction plat- form rests, allowing for the safe dismantling of the structure by limiting work at heights and efficient management of debris and wastewater, thereby protecting the river.
