Working collaboratively
There is a growing trend across the country in favour of design-build, integrated project delivery (IPD) and public-private partnerships.
New market realities, increasingly complex pro- jects, work overload, limited budgets, delivery times and labour shortages have given Cana- dian clients a clearer picture of the advantages of completing projects in alternative or colla- borative mode, and they are embracing these methods.
In this context, general contractors are putting their expertise to work for their clients, archi- tects and engineers for the duration of the lifecycle of the structure, and they re willing to share in the risk.
Project financing
Collaboration also extends to financing construction costs, which represents an obs- tacle for most developers.
Seeking new business opportunities, contrac- tors are increasingly participating one way or another in the project financing or development process.
Lenders, who are striving to reduce their risks, are turning to contractors to obtain various insu- rances, certifications and agreements pertai- ning to project construction and delivery.
Sustainable construction
This transformation is benefiting all parties concerned: the construction industry itself, but also society as a whole because it will make it possible to build more quickly, at lower cost, more safely and more sustainably.
