Project
Build a facility where the grain will be crushed and mixed, and the beer brewed and put in bottles, cans or drums, all of which are then packaged and prepared for distri- bution. The inaugural brewing was in September 2021.
Challenges
Tighten the project schedule.
Build on very low bearing capacity clay soil. Accommodate complex industrial processes. Ensure that the building is ready to receive massive equipment on time including some 50 mash vats and an automated storage system requiring a high degree of fastidiousness.
Solutions
Simultaneously execute the work and the design in order to deliver the brewing facility in less than three years that is, a few years faster than with traditional delivery methods.
Embed metal plates in one-metre-thick concrete slabs to support the heavy weight of the vats.
Use 15,000 controlled modulus concrete columns under the entire building to compensate for the soil s limited bearing capacity.
Continuously coordinate the numerous equipment manu- facturers. Execute several tasks simultaneous to the work of the equipment manufacturers in critical zones.
Carry out 3D modeling to detect conflicts before construction in order to reduce timeframe and cost. For example, to align process plumbing with pipes beneath the foundations; or to install the storage system taking into account building elements such as the steel struc- ture, ventilation ducts, sprinklers and lighting fixtures.
Offer mobile technology for design and on-site teams to access the 2D plans and 3D models of all the project players architects, engineers and equipment manufac- turers in real time.
