Build the new Biologics Manufacturing Centre for the pro- duction of close to 24 million vaccine doses a year.
Challenges
Work in fast-track mode while dealing with the complexi- ty of pharmaceutical construction and the constraints around the COVID-19 pandemic.
Coordinate the work of some 50 specialized trades.
Solutions
Simultaneous design and build. Participate in every stage of design in order to validate constructability, speed up completion, optimize procurement and minimize risks. Daily meetings with the client and designers.
Large-scale use of a virtual 3D model and technology in general to facilitate collaboration, predictability, coordina- tion and precision.
Perform off-site pre-manufacturing and pre-assembly to save time, ensure better quality control and facilitate adherence to health measures.
Add an interstitial space between the ground floor and the second floor to increase work space during the installation of electromechanical systems and pipes for the water purification system.
Review the sequence of activities to accommodate a maximum number of specialized contractors on the site at the same time.
Extend work schedules over 7 days and up to 17 hours a day.

Delivered the facility, on budget and ahead of schedule without compromising quality only 10 months after ground-breaking, instead of the typical 36 months or so.
