PlanetWatchers, surveiller les forêts avec des radars satellites PlanetWatchers, watching over our forests with satellite radars

Worldwide demand for wood is exponential, giving rise to fears for the state of our forests and the biodiversity that lives in them. Following the approach called precision forestry which uses new technologies and Big Data to protect wood resources, the American start-up PlanetWatchers can monitor forests with a combination of remote detection, satellite radar imaging and artificial intelligence techniques. These solutions supplement the expertise of field specialists to achieve more precise forest management, by monitoring every plot of land and detecting the slightest change or anomaly. The technologies used by the start-up also play a preventive role, by avoiding forest fires, for example. They help to prevent fires from starting and to avoid the damage they cause by comparing data and statistics on the density of the forests, the weather conditions, the flammability of the wood, etc.
