Strategy development
In creating our ESG strategy, it was important to us that a wide diver- sity of perspectives be considered. The wellbeing of people and our planet is everyone's business at Pomerleau, and that includes our Executive Committee and Board of Directors. This sense of responsi- bility is a strength that gives our plan significant speed of action, and that ensures any concerns are addressed as part of the organization s overall strategic vision.
We rely on specific expertise within the various governance bodies to inform our way forward in terms of ESG.
→ 50% of the Board of Directors has ESG expertise.
At Pomerleau, we also rely on diversity to propel innovation during major strategic discussions.
→ 25% of our Board of Directors are women.
→ 11% of our Executive Committee members are women. → Our managers have been with us for an average of 9 years, and their average age is 44.
This is why a five-step collaborative approach was launched in 2021, involving a number of internal and external stakeholders. In total, more than 40 employees from different levels and departments took part in this process.
How our ESG strategy was developed
In-depth interviews were conducted with 20 stakeholders from all levels in the company. All stakeholders expressed a clear desire for our ESG strategy to be a differentiating factor for Pomerleau. Capitalizing on the excellent work completed to date, their wish was to continue to advance ESG within the construction ecosystem, beyond just at Pomerleau.
Interviews were also conducted with five key external stakeholders representing our shareholders and key clients. These consultations also strongly supported the creation of a highly ambitious ESG strategy. Priority issues that were highlighted included climate change, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Of the key ESG issues identified by our internal and external stake- holders, six have been identified as strategic priorities.
