Construction management
Managing construction projects like those for organic matter recovery centres and organic matter biomethanization centres located in Quebec City allows us to contribute to energy transition and also to to promote a circular economy in our communities. Thanks to biomethanization:
→ Residential food waste and municipal sludge from water treatment plants are diverted from incineration and landfill;
→ Biogas from these products is captured and purified, so that it can be transformed into renewable natural gas, and compressed and injected into the Énergir natural gas network;
→ Other products, namely digestate and ammonium sulphate, are valued in various markets, particularly agriculture.

In total, more than 253,000 tons of concrete, 25,000 tons of steel, and 12,000 tons of asphalt will be recovered by local buyers located near the deconstruction site, to minimize environmental impacts linked to transport. The Nouvel Horizon St-Laurent consortium, a partnership between Pomerleau and Delsan AIM, is committed to giving a second life to all steel, 95% of the mass of uncontaminated concrete and asphalt, and 90% of the total mass of materials generated by construction activities, including site waste.

Deconstruction of the original Champlain Bridge: a second life for deconstructed infrastructure materials reaching the end of their life cycle
Marie-Josée Laplante Senior Project Manager
Once recovered, one person s residual material can become another person s value chain inputs. Giving a second life to our waste is one of the many ways we mitigate our environmental impacts, but also and above all helps us contribute to a resilient economy.
