Breaking down barriers:
Important conversations with
women in construction
We organized a roundtable in Montreal, attended by 200
people from our organization, to listen to women talk about
their experiences in construction. The panelists spoke openly
about their journeys, which created a space for honest dia-
logue about working on male-dominated teams, the balance
between family life and professional ambitions and how to
break through traditional barriers.
This event clearly demonstrates our commitment to women
throughout our organization, and it had a snowball effect
nation-wide—all our off ices are now planning to organize simi-
lar forums. And we’re also planning to introduce sponsorship
programs, create support groups, increase the visibility of
women at internal and industry-wide events, and strengthen
ties with local construction associations. Our goal? To help
change the industry, one conversation at a time.
Listening to other women’s
stories made me realize
that I’m not alone. We really
need honest conversations
like these. I came away
energized, with the feeling
that things really can
change.
