Our Flagship Achievements
COMMUNITY RELATIONS
Daily Bread Food Bank: A competition
that’s nourishing solidarity
Solidarity can be demonstrated in unexpected ways. In Toronto,
the members of our team rolled up their sleeves and went
down to the sorting area of the Daily Bread Food Bank for a
little friendly—albeit ferocious!—competition against other
construction companies.
This initiative achieved two goals: not only did the participating
companies make a joint donation of $45,000, but they also
sorted and boxed 15,000 pounds of food to be distributed to
people in need. A concrete way to f ight food insecurity while
strengthening ties with industry players.
Art on campus: An enriching student
experience, beyond buildings
When building the Harmony Commons student residence at
University of Toronto Scarborough, we wanted to go beyond
walls and roofs. For this large Passive House certif ied project,
we took an inventive approach.
In collaboration with the on-campus Doris McCarthy gallery
and the community of students in curatorial studies, we
organized the selection of artwork for the lobby of the resi-
dence. Students were invited to ref lect on themes like the
environment, sustainability and community life.
The students chose “Synchro Thoughts,” a painting by Kristine
Moran that captures the essence of the student experience.
This project exemplif ies our conviction that a building’s suc-
cess is not measured by eff iciency alone, but also the way it
enriches the lives of the people who live there.
