Innovation: Our Lever For Transformation
Innovation means rethinking the way we do things and
deploying leading-edge technologies at our worksites and
across our organization. As Canada’s pioneers in Building
Information Modelling, or BIM, since 2012, we continue
to push the boundaries of what’s possible. This culture of
continuous improvement is also what drives our laboratory
in testing new solutions, not only for us but to move the
entire industry forward.
In 2024, innovation served a dual purpose: to build better
and transform the industry. Progress was observed across
multiple sectors of our organization.
Building better
Our major projects can now take advantage of a digital eco-
system that interconnects enterprise resource planning
systems with a variety of specialized applications. This step
forward enables more informed decision-making in real time,
and has already been deployed on four major joint-venture
projects in 2024.
We’re expanding the use of BIM and Virtual Design and
Construction, or VDC, on projects of all scopes to support
our three business divisions. In 2024, we deployed VDC on
nearly 70% of our projects. This technology allows us to
consolidate all the information into a single virtual model,
so that stakeholders are involved in every step of a project’s
life cycle, from planning to operations.
Artif icial intelligence (AI) is also transforming the way we
manage our projects and our company. For example, by combi-
ning point clouds, AI, BIM models and geographic information
systems, we’ll be able to create ultra-accurate and constantly
updated digital twins. Our new AI-powered estimation app
will help us predict costs more accurately. AI will also help
improve relationships with our partners by providing detailed
data analyses specif ic to our projects. Lastly, it will help in
decision-making by offering data-based information, which
will reduce errors and optimize the way we manage projects,
scheduling and budgets.
Transforming the industry
True to our commitment to radically transform the industry,
we’ve presented our innovations at nearly a dozen specialized
global forums. By sharing our expertise, we’re helping to create
a positive ripple effect and drive the construction industry
towards more innovative and sustainable practices.
