We are currently experiencing a fascinating evolution at
Pomerleau, one of which we are very proud. At the heart of
this expansion are our people and our corporate responsibility
action plan, which combines our business ambitions with our
environmental, social, and governance commitments, all of
which are part of a single path toward sustainable success.
As we embark on the “project of the century,” our growth must
be thoughtful, sustainable, and guided by our desire to posi-
tively transform the industry and our communities.
Building the future with a safer
and more inclusive industry
The completion of the project of the century depends on our
collective ability to attract and develop the necessary talent
in a labor shortages context. Our industry will need to recruit
300,000 workers over a period of 10 years. We need skilled
tradespeople, but also talent in all disciplines, including sur-
veying, engineering, architecture, law, the environment, and
many others. We are therefore working hard to ensure grea-
ter diversity and inclusion in our industry, which is still too
male-dominated.
At Pomerleau, coming home safe and looking out for one
another is non-negotiable—it’s at the core of our values and
how we work together. It’s this safe and caring environment
that has shaped our culture over the decades and will continue
to inspire our talented people for years to come.
Concrete actions for the environment
On the environmental front, reaching our net-zero emissions
objective by 2050 is based on two axes. First, the emblematic
worksites that we create for our clients: for example, in Van-
couver, extending the SkyTrain will multiply public and active
transit options; in Toronto, the construction of the Albert Jack-
son Processing Centre provided Canada Post with its largest
parcel sorting facility—100% zero carbon.
At the same time, we’re rolling out our own programs to reduce
our environmental footprint: residual materials accounting is
one of the standards on all our construction sites; the elec-
trif ication of our f leet of vehicles is moving at a good clip;
and our Heat Better Challenge has completely rethought
our approach to temporary heating on worksites to reduce
greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. These concrete actions
