Shalimar :

100 years of passion

In 2025 , Guerlain celebrated the 100

th

  anniversary of

Shalimar , an icon of the Maison ’ s history and heritage .

It all began with an extraordinary love story : in the

17th   century , Emperor Shah Jahan had the sumptuous

Shalimar Gardens built for his beloved , Princess Mumtaz

Mahal . After her death , the emperor was inconsolable ,

and in her memory constructed the Taj Mahal , one

of   the Seven Wonders of the World . The story inspired

Jacques Guerlain to create Shalimar –   modern per -

fumery ’ s very first oriental fragrance   – in 1925 .

For the centenary of this legendary scent , the Maison

unveiled Shalimar L ’ Essence : an intense , modern version

of the iconic fragrance that accentuates its most dis -

tinctive elements . First and foremost of these is vanilla

–   the heart of the Maison ’ s signature “ Guerlinade ”

blend   – extracted from organic Madagascar vanilla

beans , received fresh , then hand - cut at Guerlain ’ s

workshops in Orphin .

To adorn the unique bottle with a befittingly majestic

creation , the Maison chose Franco - Brazilian artist

Janaïna Milheiro , a virtuoso of contemporary feather -

work whose sculptural , architectural feather pieces

combine breathtaking lightness with rigor and moder -

nity . The numbered , limited - edition featherworks are

the perfect showcase for Shalimar elevating the

legendary fragrance to a work of art
