Château d ’ Esclans – a magnificent estate lined with

vivid blue hydrangeas – lies in the heart of Provence ,

northeast of Saint - Tropez and just a stone ’ s throw from

the Mediterranean .

The site dates back to the time of the Gauls , when it

served as a lookout point to spot intruders arriving by

boat into the Gulf of Fréjus .

The current chateau , inspired by Tuscan villa architec -

ture , was built in the mid - 19th   century . The estate is

renowned for its old Grenache vines – some more than

90 years old – which yield grapes that concentrate

more flavors than younger vines .

It is here , in 2006 , that the “ Rebirth of Rosé ” began ,

with the ambition of elevating the Côtes de Provence

appellation to world class renown
