Dr . Layla van der Heide - Martin is assistant professor in transport and

logistics at Eindhoven University of Technology ( TU / e ) , focusing on

decision - making in transport operations .

Layla participates in multiple research projects aiming at reducing

emissions from transport operations through modal shift and

electrification .

TU / e leads the first work package ( Freight Flow Implementation )

within InnoWaTr , helping the eight FFCs in setting up coalitions , and

the early phases of the project .

TU / e researchers also develop algorithms for operating and

coordinating FFC operations and contribute to the dissemination of

InnoWaTr findings to their students , tomorrow ‘ s decision - makers .

Coalition formation can be challenging . We need to

decide with whom to collaborate ( and whom to only

keep informed ) , we need to approach them , we

need to keep them engaged throughout the project .

Within InnoWaTr , we address coalition - related

challenges throughout the entire lifetime of the

coalition .

We created a mind shift , convince adverserial

parties , become aware of hidden motivators ,

determine good organizational structures built on

trust , and handle the interplay of competition and

collaboration .
