Seafar NV is a technology company specializing in developing technology for

operating unmanned / reduced crew vessels for inland navigation . The

company ' s innovative Remote Operation Center enables multiple unmanned

vessels to be monitored and operated by a shore captain . By leveraging this

Founded in Antwerp in 2018 , Seafar is

currently active in Antwerp ( BE ) ,

Charleroi ( BE ) , Rotterdam ( NL ) and

Duisburg ( DE ) .

It has achieved important milestones

like Europe ' s first remotely operated

barge ( 2020 ) and estuary vessel ( 2021 ) ,

and the EU ' s first fully unmanned barge

( 2021 ) . In 2022 , Seafar received the EU

Seal of Excellence and the Flemish

accelerating the greenification of

inland waterborne transport

Sustainability wise remote operations of

vessels allow captains to work a

maximum of eight hours per day before

another captain takes control from the

remote control center . This approach

promotes a healthier work - life balance

for captains and reduces fuel

consumption . Moreover , when a vessel

is being loaded or unloaded , the

remote captain can navigate another

vessel until the loading is complete ,

increasing the productivity of remote

captains .
