How Future Logistics Stakeholders See IWT ?
Lars Stemmler
Students of University of Applied Sciences Osnabrück
present their views on inland shipping
Inland shipping is a niche industry within logistics . Bringing IWT out of its niche ,
bremenports asked future logisticians how they see inland shipping , and ,
more importantly , how they would convey the IWT message to their peers . In
short , over the course of one semester , we asked them to investigate IWT by
designing their own research project .
For this , bremenports cooperated with the University of Applied Sciences
Osnabrück , Germany , to dedicate a semester - long module on international
logistics to inland shipping .
Along heutagogical principles , 30 + students were encouraged to formulate
their own learning objectives within the context of IWT ´ s role in international
logiscits . Heutagogics build upon personal experiences of the learners in
order to establish a context for future explorations meeting their own intrinsic
curiosity . This curiosity was sparked by exposing them to a multi - dimensional
learning environment of expert talks , excursions and case studies .
The training shed light on a
logistics sector we would
otherwise never have
explored

inalnd shipping – an imagined
interview
The learning environment included a
time - dimension : We visited the inland
port of Osnabrück and explored its
past in a local museum . Several
external speakers provided for their
perspectives other than that of the
course instructor . We introduced
activity - based learning through case
studies on IWT . However , a great part
of the course was dedicated to
guided self - study .
