Reflections on InnoWaTr
InnoWaTr Centre of Expertise
103
The InnoWaTr consortium wanted to
raise interest and to inspire
InnoWaTr set out to develop , implement and validate eight real - life
experiments in inland shipping . Those experiments , Freight Flow Coalitions ,
were driven by a collaborative approach amongst all stakeholders involved .
Using technological innovations added heft to a change of perspective from
the ship - owner - only level to a freight flow level . A number of trainings were
conducted to test our tools , and to incorporate views of future logistics
decision makers .
The InnoWaTr journey turned out to be not always plain sailing . Freight flow
coalitions adapted to changing situations , or revised their focus for various
reasons . We would say that this was to be expected given the novel nature
of our approach . Two and a half years into the project , and we can tell how
collaborations feels like , and what works in our coalitions and what not .

What we have learned , and what we can recommend
The intention of the Centre of Expertise is to document our innovative
approach to inland shipping , to provide our experience and tools to a wider
audience as well as to offer recommendations to policy makers . Also , we
want to provide direct access to the experts and organisations involved .
The Centre of Expertise shall be considered an offer ; it is no a textbook , but a
loose collection of beliefs and strategies how inland shipping might work . It is
a buffet - style collection of tools that we used and tested . It is enriched by
outsiders ´ perspectives on the industry . However , it is not a resource book to
be followed to the letter
The InnoWaTr consortium wanted to raise interest in novel approaches to
inland shipping and to inspire you to do likewise ideally setting up your own
freight flow coalition We hope we succeeded
