Commodities include retail goods
such as clothing and consumer
electronics as well as beverage for
the restaurants and bars .
Pallets and parcels are stored at the
warehouse of TOP - Mehrwert , which is
located c . 6 km from the city centre
adjacent a canal . Here , TOP -
Mehrwert consolidates and loads the
cargoes .
In Hamburg urban IWT has to address
the tidal influence of the River Elbe
including lock passages A data
collection pilot by Fraunhofer CML a
research outfit assesses navigational
and traffic related data to identify
potential customers and suitable
transports in the future .
On a second route , FFC3 is testing the
delivery of beverages to bars and
restaurants along the centrally
located Alster lake and canals in
Hamburg . Trips with a fully electric
vessel showed that delivery via water
is not only feasible but also on most
relations at least just as quick as
road - based deliveries .
In addition deliveries by boat
significantly reduce risks of road
based deliveries such as illegal
parking and blocking of walkways or
bike lanes
TOP - Mehrwert Logistik and Logistik Initiative Hamburg develop and plan to pilot
a concept for the supply of an urban district with retails and restaurants via
inland waterway transport . FFC 3 tests the potential and feasibility of a IWT city
freight distribution for retail supply . This could lead to a modal shift from urban
road freight transport to zero emission urban IWT .
