The InnoWaTr Project , partly funded by the Interreg North Sea Region Programme , involves 26
partners building eight real - life experiments , which we call Freight Flow Coalitions ( FFC ) .
These offer novel organisational and technical solutions to boost modal shifts from road to
inland waterways , helping to reduce congestion , pollution , costs and regulatory hurdles .
Core to InnoWaTr is a collaborative approach between stakeholders in all FFC which aims at
proposing an inspiring strategy to copy elsewhere . The InnoWaTr approach changes the
focus from single ship - owners and directs the perspective to a freight flow level , involving all
relevant stakeholders , where interests , responsibilities and benefits are shared . The project ´ s
eight FFC provide evidence that improving IWT ´ s performance is best achieved by a multi -
stakeholder approach .
