FFC2 focuses on creating a sustainable inland waterway

transport service for containers between Hamburg and

Bremen / Bremerhaven to reduce environmental impact and

provide an alternative to road transport . The main challenges

include long transport times , high costs , and carriers '

preference for Hamburg over Bremerhaven .

Information :

The pilot aims to establish a reliable barge transport route that

enhances operational efficiency and increases container

movement while aligning with the Greening Containers

Proposal to reduce CO ₂ emissions . This will be achieved by

optimizing port calls and shifting the route to include Hamburg ,

the Mittelland Canal , Bremen , and Bremerhaven .
