In our FFCs , we focus less on single IWT entrepreneurs , or ship - owners , but
more on freight flows . Also , projects aiming to tackle the challenges in IWT are
strongly focusing on technology . This shift from technology and ship owners to
freight flows places responsibilities on all stakeholder along an IWT transport
chain , requiring them to share responsibilities , costs and benefits and jointly
implement new technologies .
In this novel approach a freight flow is no longer considered a combination
of individual business models , but a collective business - cooperation
proposition .
Organising freight flow stakeholders around their common interests in terms of
environmental goals and profitability this improves potential financing
propositions spreads benefits and allows for durable and continuous freight
flow oriented environmental impacts
InnoWaTr is driven by a feeling that a different approach to IWT is needed . An
approach that encourages the uptake of innovations in the sector ; an
approach that individual actors in logistics cannot master .
We feel the key is collaboration across all stakeholders along a supply chain .
This is where a „ freight flow coalition “ ( FFC ) comes in . InnoWaTr introduces
and validates the concept of FFCs : a transnational multi stakeholder
approach that , per freight flow , shares responsibilities and benefits amongst
all stakeholders to accelerate joint innovation .
