FFC 1 – Seadvi . se :
Digital Platform

Rather than focusing on a single freight flow from point A to B with a specific
shipping company , the Swedish FFC1 focuses on improving the visibility of
waterway transport , making it a known alternative , thereby enhancing the
attractiveness of inland waterway transport solutions and lowering thresholds
for cargo owners to start using inland waterway transport . The platform brings
together information from shipping companies , ports and cargo owners .
The platform visualizes waterway options in a clear and accessible way ,
including an estimation of CO emissions and indicative prices for specific
origin destination flows helping to identify potential for use of waterway
transport solutions Cargo owners can quickly gain insights into the costs and
CO impact of different routes and modes of transport The platform in FFC1
creates good prerequisites for building many future effective freight flow
coalitions
A first and vital step to initiate a FFC is to facilitate the interface between
cargo owners , shipping and port terminal operators . This is exactly what the
Swedish partners did . They developed a digital platform to enable this
interaction : “ Seadvi . se ”
An objective of Seadvi . se was to improve the visibility of waterway transport
and make it a known alternative , especially to shippers .
In Sweden , inland waterways are under - utilized and cargo owners are used
to road transport to a large extent . There are many barriers for a shift , with a
major obstacle being the lack of knowledge regarding possibilities to utilize
waterway transport , and resistance to change .
