InnoWaTr ‘ s Transnational Benefits
Shared Objectives and Transnational Collaboration
Focus on Freight Flow Level and Regionality
Networking and Learning
Shared Objectives : The project addresses significant challenges such as climate change , emissions , and
road congestion in the North Sea Region ( NSR ) . One of the key objectives is to promote greening of
inland waterway transportation ( IWT ) and facilitate modal shifts from road to water .
Transnational Collaboration : Given that IWT - related freight flows operate across regions and national
borders , effective collaboration among stakeholders from different countries is essential . The involvement
of multiple stakeholders from various regions promotes a comprehensive approach to addressing IWT
challenges .
Focus on Freight Flow Level : The project emphasizes the necessity of bundling stakeholder interests at the freight
flow level , which requires a strong transnational focus to foster synergies . This approach allows for a better
alignment of interests and facilitates the sharing of best practices .
Diverse Regional Cultures : The operational and regional significance of individual freight flows means that
solutions must be contextualized ; hence , learning from diverse contexts across different regions is crucial . The
project aims to facilitate interactions that can lead to better collaboration and innovative solutions . Each
Freight Flow Coalition ( FFC ) operates within its distinct regional culture . This diversity provides unique
opportunities for observing and understanding coalition building , offering insights into how different
environments affect collaboration and problem - solving .
Expertise Network With eight FFCs across five countries of the North Sea Region InnoWaTr creates a vast
and interconnected network of expertise This collaborative environment promotes a culture of
cooperation that is vital for tackling the complex challenges associated with IWT
Innovation and Learning The project s design encourages innovation through transnational lessons
learned which can be applied to enhance IWT practices and policies The focus on cooperation is seen
as a key driver for successful outcomes
