Bridging the Funding Gap
.
In inland shipping , finding competitive financiers to fund your project can
prove to be difficult . Declining IWT modal share , an ageing fleet and the
impact of climate change on river water level provide uncertainty to
prospective funders . As such , IWT fails to play out its environmental
credentials .
In InnoWaTr , HHX . blue developed a self - assessment tool for freight flow
coalitions to assess the business case and the related financing and greening
propositions respectively . The tool enables FFCs to adjust their projects and
business propositions to market conditions in ship finance and enhance the
probability of attracting appropriate finance as well as complying with
greening requirements , or even better , providing good examples exceeding
them .
The self - assessment tool uses Stated
Preference ( SP ) surveys to quantify
users ’ behaviour in a new situation by
exposing them to structured
questionnaires and / or focus groups .
SP surveys are useful in cases where
no real - world data exists to make
conclusions . SP surveys are most
widely used in transportation as in the
case of IW to understand how users
and service providers will trade off
money to gain something less
tangible such as time savings
reliability or greening
